It’s clear that the pace of our connected lifestyles isn’t going to slow down any time soon and we should just accept the fact that between phones, tablets, and computers, technology is becoming more and more omnipresent. That being the case, we’re seeing a trend in the convergence of technology and design. If we’re living in a wired world, why not cut the cord whenever possible…or at least hide it? Here are a few examples we think really work:
Store Away Unwanted iPhone and iPad Cables: Stage Charging Shelf
These shelves are a wonderful representation of what’s new for 2014 design trends. The floating shelf is sleek and simple. The ingenuity of hiding wires and charging devices is not only brilliant but totally on point as to where design is headed.
Dutch based furniture brand Spell launched their latest creation, the Stage, an interactive shelf acting as a meeting place for all your re-chargeable handheld devices. A very simple idea and yet so appropriate to optimize what is now a daily action, storing away those unwanted cables which proliferate inside our homes. The wall-mounted shelf can also serve as a small workplace. With enough space underneath to hide a power strip, the ‘Stage’ turns storage into a fully-functional charging and meeting station.
6+ Cool Work Desks Every Freelancer Should Own
In Designing a home office we often have to place furniture in a way that hides the wires, usually against the wall! These desks allow us to maximize an open floor plan and design a space with flow and character.
Imagine that money was no object. Imagine that you, as a freelancer or just a person who works from home, could have the desk of your dreams. Wouldn’t that be amazing?
Yes, that desk from IKEA works great, we all own one, but some desks out there are cool beyond imagination. The first step is to get to know them. The second step is to set your sights on one. And who knows? If you work towards it, one of these awesome desks could be yours one day. I, for one, will keep dreaming.
Intel dreams up a smart bowl that will charge gadgets
A smart idea that adds beauty and functionality to any table. The contemporary and simplistic feel of this bowl fits into any décor. The fact that it charges your devices is the added plus.
Now this would be cool: a wireless charging bowl.
If you’re anything like me, you have a specific place where you drop your keys and phone at the end of the day. What if the bowl you dropped them into charged them up for you? Intel has plans for just that. Sneaked in among the several new innovations the company showcased at its 2014 CES keynote address was a smart wireless charging bowl. Intel CEO Brian Krzanich discussed the bowl in the section of the presentation about solving problems by making everything smart. It seems they’re starting small. Small, however, doesn’t mean insignificant.
